About the Utrata Capsulorhexis Forceps
Utrata forceps are fine, angled capsulorhexis forceps used in cataract surgery. In continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC), a round opening is made in the front of the lens capsule. The surgeon usually starts the tear with a bent needle (cystotome), then uses the needle or Utrata forceps to guide the torn edge around in a smooth circle.
The forceps have delicate grasping tips set at an angle on long, thin shanks, and many models have a guide pin.
Versions differ in handle shape (flat or round), tip delicacy and material; titanium models are also listed. Shank length and tip design vary by manufacturer.
