Castroviejo Suturing Forceps

Also known as: Castroviejo forceps

Fine ophthalmic forceps with 1×2 teeth and a tying platform, used to hold tissue while suturing and to tie fine sutures in eye surgery.

Reusable hand instrument

About the Castroviejo Suturing Forceps

Castroviejo suturing forceps are delicate ophthalmic thumb-style forceps that combine two jobs in one instrument. The tips carry 1×2 teeth for holding tissue while a suture is passed. Behind the teeth is a flat tying platform used to grip and tie the suture.

In 1×2 teeth, a single tooth on one side meshes between two on the other. This gives a secure hold on tissue with relatively little pressure.

The pattern is made in a wide range of tooth sizes, from very fine to heavier, with straight, angled or bayonet shafts and flat or wide handles. Tooth size is usually the first thing to specify, and it is stated differently by each manufacturer.
