How to Check a Medical Instrument Supplier Before You Buy

Updated 7 October 2026

A directory listing is a starting point, not a guarantee. Before you commit to a new medical instrument supplier, work through these checks.

1. Confirm the company’s identity

  • Use the contact details published on the company’s official website, and be wary of details that only appear on third-party marketplaces.
  • Check that the email domain matches the official website domain.
  • Where possible, confirm the registered company name in an official business register for the company’s country.

2. Ask for regulatory and quality documents

Requirements depend on your market and the device class. Common requests include the quality management system certificate (for example ISO 13485), evidence of the marking or registration your market requires, and declarations of conformity. Verify certificates with the issuing body rather than relying only on a copy.

3. Understand who actually makes the product

Ask whether the instruments are made in-house or sourced, which production steps are done in-house, and what materials are used (for example the stainless steel grade).

4. Request samples and documentation

Evaluate samples before placing volume orders. Ask for instructions for use, reprocessing and sterilization guidance, and the labelling and traceability information your market requires.

5. Agree terms in writing

Confirm specifications, packaging, labelling, lead times, inspection, warranty and return terms in a written agreement.

SurgiFacts.com shows when a profile was last checked against official sources. If you find information that is out of date, please report a correction.
