Every company profile on SurgiFacts.com lists one or more business roles. A single company can hold several roles at once, so it helps to know what each one means before you send an inquiry.
Manufacturer
A manufacturer produces instruments itself, in its own facilities or through production it controls. For surgical hand instruments, that can include forging, machining, grinding, hardening, finishing and passivation. Buying from a manufacturer usually gives you the most direct access to technical information, such as materials, tolerances and production capacity.
Supplier
A supplier sells instruments to buyers. It may manufacture some products, source others from partner factories, or both. Suppliers are often the right choice when you need a wide range from one source, short lead times or local support.
Exporter
An exporter sells to buyers in other countries and handles export documentation and international shipping. Many manufacturers in major production clusters are also exporters.
Distributor
A distributor buys from manufacturers and resells within defined markets, often with warehousing, local regulatory support and after-sales service.
OEM and ODM
OEM (original equipment manufacturer) production means the company makes products that another business sells under its own brand, usually to the buyer’s specification. ODM (original design manufacturer) means the company also contributes the design or development of the product.
Why it matters
- Ask a supplier where the products are made if origin matters to you.
- Ask a manufacturer which steps happen in-house.
- For private label or OEM work, agree specifications, quality documentation and labelling responsibilities in writing.
On SurgiFacts.com, roles reflect what the company states publicly. They do not certify capability. Always confirm details directly with the company.
