About the Kocher-Ochsner Hemostat
The Kocher-Ochsner hemostat belongs to the Kocher family of forceps. These have serrated blades with interlocking teeth at the tips and are used to control bleeding. Theodor Kocher is credited with introducing his surgical clamp in 1882 to prevent blood loss during surgery.
Like other hemostats, it has ring handles and a ratchet that holds the jaws closed once applied.
The versions on this page are extra-long straight forceps with 1×2 teeth, grouped by the catalogue with bariatric instruments, where long reach is needed. Lengths and jaw patterns of other Kocher-type forceps differ between manufacturers.
