About the Farrior Oval Ear Speculum
The Farrior ear speculum is a rigid, funnel-shaped aural speculum. Like other ear specula it is inserted into the external ear canal to give a clear channel for looking in, for suction or irrigation, or for passing other instruments during an ENT procedure.
What sets this pattern apart from round aural specula is its oval cross-section. Catalogue listings include oval and oval-oblique versions, angled versions and black (non-reflective) finishes, made in a graded series of sizes.
Wikipedia notes that larger metal ear specula are used with a binocular microscope, which gives a wider field of view than an otoscope. Sizes and angles vary by manufacturer.
