Ryder Needle Holder

Ratcheted needle holder with narrow, fine jaws for very small needles, used in cardiovascular, plastic and neurosurgical procedures.

Reusable hand instrument

About the Ryder Needle Holder

The Ryder needle holder is a fine, ring-handled needle holder with a ratchet. Sklar describes it as having narrow jaws and being used with very small suture needles in cardiovascular, plastic and neurosurgical procedures. Sklar also notes that the Ryder's finger-ring profile distinguishes it from similar patterns.

The narrow jaws hold small needles without hiding the suturing site. On serrated versions, micro cross-serrations help keep the needle from twisting.

The pattern comes with smooth or serrated jaws and in a range of lengths. Teleflex lists several Ryder lines, including a slender extra-fine series and a 'French eye' version with straight smooth jaws. Tungsten carbide inserts are standard on many versions.
