About the Ballenger Swivel Knife
The Ballenger swivel knife is a nasal knife whose small blade is mounted on a swivel at the end of the shaft. Swivel blades are one of the blade forms named in the generic nasal-knife definition, alongside pointed and double-edged blades.
It is used to cut septal cartilage. A cadaver study presented at the 2022 ASAPS (Aesthetic Society) meeting used a Ballenger swivel knife for closed septal cartilage harvest, cutting parallel to the nasal dorsum, and measured how much dorsal cartilage support was left afterwards.
Makers offer it with a straight or bayonet-shaped shaft and in several blade widths.
